Another thread from Burg... :-)

ELO leaderboard points kind of annoys me since I hate losing tons of points once I climb reasonably high (some others must agree, hence the discussion of capping maximum point loss in another thread), but I can't really suggest a better alternative. I have pondered an addition, however, as a compromise. How about adding a column which documents the maximum point ranking each player has ever achieved, and allowing a sort by that column as well as the default sort by the current point rankings? So Bromley, with his 14,777 points would always maintain a record of that even if he suddenly loses 250 points several times in a row (which isn't impossible if he were, for example, to sign up for tournament format that somehow really disagreed with him). He'd still fall from #1 in the current rankings, of course, but be #1 in the "all time" column. It might help make some players less protective of their rankings and more inclined to experimentation. (Note: I'm not saying anything targetted specifically at Bromley here, just abusing him as an example since he's #1 :-).

Also, I think it would be great if extreme members who organize tournaments meeting certain requirements (min # of entrants, open to all, etc.) and get some sort of approval (from developers and/or mods) could award the winner(s)'s acount a badge/medal that would show up on the leaderboard next to their name just as a little extra bling (no other impact besides the glory of it all).
